The Dirty Disney (Week 6)

The Dirty Disney

For Underground Comics I decided to read “Air Pirate Funnies”. I knew I could read and find really grimy sexualized comics like Tits and Clits, but I wanted to know what people made of Disney in a sexualized and violent manner.

The results were as expected, the same Disney characters but sexualized. A perverted Donald Duck whos addicted to porn and goes about his day just trying to get some. Considering he is really old “I bought the first playboy” he's  a pedophile who lures a 19 year old into his house for “music lessons”. Although the story is portrait extremely sexist against women, its atleast good to see that the female character always beats the living shit out of the males who are trying to take advantage of her.

So aside from that theres the constant sex scene of Disney characters which is really akward and funny, scenes like Mickey eating Minney out just stand out, I can’t help but picture the artists sketching, cleaning up the drawing, and inking that scene, its really funny.  Last but not least, I thought it was really interesting all the drug references included. The comic started with babies smoking joints, but the one that stood out was when they included the famous Dr.Timothy Leary, Dean of Science at Harvard and League of Spiritual Discovery leader as a stoned character, hes got joints in his mouth, ears, and hand.

The Comedy of Tin Tin (Week 4)

HergĂ©'s genius is unmatched, the Tin Tin comic franchise has been so successful because of the unique characters and their personality which take the readers on fun dangerous adventures. Yet somehow there is always a well balanced diet between drama and comedy, these unique moments are what keep the journey light and fun.

Reading Tin Tin in Tibet I found myself laughing out loud on certain moments. It should be noted that what makes these funny is set up of the joke, and the pay off (the reaction of the character, according to his unique personality.) Personally, I think Captain Haddock and Snowy are the comedic reliefs of the story, and its their experience that make it so enjoyable. This particular adventure wouldn't be what it is without moments such as :

When Captain Haddock smacked himself in the face with boots...

Or when he was so tired not even alcohol could help him...

Or when his beard got stuck on a zipper...

Or when he blew the sacred horn inappropriately...

Or when he scared a Yeti away with his temper...

Or when he smacked a monk in the face...

But hands down the best moments are when Snowy gives in to temptation, his Devil side makes his Angel side cry, and he gets drunk.
